The present chapter addresses this changing reality and the main theoretical and analytical challenges this implies. Our contribution is organized as follows. After this brief introduction, Section two provides a summary of the main findings of the more traditional literature on business, employers’ organisations, and their role in contemporary political economies. Section three investigates how the role of employers’ associations has evolved in the post-industrial and globalised economy in influencing labour market and welfare policy reforms. Section four of the present chapter concludes with some reflections on the future research agenda on the topic.
