Virtual environment technology is being used for training in specific tasks. The use of this technology is motivated both by cost, and by benefits in terms of safety. However, these applications mostly serve as enhanced simulators by recreating working conditions as closely as possible to typical operative scenarios. Such simulators present only the scenarios and the physical constraints related to a specific task to the trainee, without employing any particular knowledge on how the task should be performed. On the basis of the experience gathered from almost four decades of training with virtual environments, this chapter presents an integrated methodology to combine technological environments for training with specific pedagogical and training elements that are usually taken into account during traditional training.

Abstract
Virtual environment technology is being used for training in specific tasks. The use of this technology is motivated both by cost, and by benefits in terms of safety. However, these applications mostly serve as enhanced simulators by recreating working conditions as closely as possible to typical operative scenarios. Such simulators present only the scenarios and the physical constraints related to a specific task to the trainee, without employing any particular knowledge on how the task should be performed. On the basis of the experience gathered from almost four decades of training with virtual environments, this chapter presents an integrated methodology to combine technological environments for training with specific pedagogical and training elements that are usually taken into account during traditional training.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
